Informal Event Committee Meeting Minutes, January 26, 2000
Several members of the CLAM met at the River Shack for lunch 1/26/00 to discuss dates, locations, and volunteers for upcoming events. All decisions will need to be approved at the next CLAM meeting, February 8, 2000, 6 p.m., at American Heritage Real Estate.
In attendance were Frank Bechtel, Cindi Ehrgott, Al Meredith, Jan Murphy, Manny Shaffer, Donna McMaster, and Betsy Barth.
Community rummage sale: Frank was unable to get a response from the Grange. Decided to postpone the rummage sale until May and have it outdoors. Discussed locations throughout Coloma and Lotus. We tentatively agreed we would like to locate the "rummage" (used stuff) in the parking lots at the Coloma Club and Coloma Village, and put more "antique" items at Sutter Center Market and Two Feather's Trading Post. We will need to contact the Coloma Village owner/manager for permission, and CalTrans, CHP and/or the Sheriffs regarding safety for pedestrians crossing Hwy 49 at these two locations. Date should be a Saturday in May, not Mother's Day or Memorial Day. Most likely date is 5/20. Committee: Frank, Al & Anita, Manny, Betsy.
Easter egg hunt: Confirmed Saturday, April 22, 2 p.m. Want to advertise this only in Coloma and Lotus -- otherwise we will be inundated with out-of-town children. Suggest flyers at both post offices, and put a notice up on the Fire Station sign. Need an Easter Bunny volunteer, and donations of candy. Designate drop-off points for candy, donations, and gift certificates from merchants that can be hidden in plastic eggs. Cindi Ehrgott and Jan Murphy will coordinate.
Community Christmas tree: Ken Simmons has said OK to the community Christmas tree and to the Christmas tree lighting and decorating ceremony. Plan ceremony for Saturday, 12/2, one week before Christmas in Coloma. Start around 4 p.m., with caroling, etc. Want to plant the tree as soon as possible so that it can get acclimated over the summer. Plan tree-planting ceremony. Frank, Jan, Cindi are working on this.
Music concerts: Call this "Music in the Park"? "Music on the Meadow"? First concert will be July 4th. We will not provide food -- requires too much health-related equipment (sinks, etc). Invite people to bring picnic lunches, and we will sell sodas. Cindi is coordinating.
ColomaFest: We will host another Street Dance and BBQ at ColomaFest on June 10, as we did last year. Frank got permission from Ken to set up at 4 p.m. and start the music early so that people will stay for the BBQ and dance. Manny has suggestion for a good band; he will follow up. Frank will ask Fritz to chair.
